Easy Like Sunday Lunch with Cath Kidston

At LAMP LDN we know the value of time spent at home, creating memories with family and loved ones or enjoying quiet moments alone. Sitting around the table to share a meal, pottering around in the garden, endless lists of DIY and, if we’re lucky, long baths with a favourite book.

Our Easy Like Sunday Lunch series gives us five minutes to share a cup of tea on a Sunday morning with someone we admire, as they talk us through their rituals for a Sunday at home. Each of our Sunday hosts shares our passion for creating beautiful and loved spaces.

This Easy Like Sunday Lunch is hosted by Cath Kidston Padgham, MBE. Aside from being a household name and icon of the interiors industry, Cath has been a long term friend and supporter of LAMP LDN since our very beginnings, and we stock two of her brands - her C.Atherley range of natural geranium body care, and her fabulous Joy of Print wallpapers, where she brings together young and gifted British designers.

Tell us about your love for design - when did you realise that design would play such a huge part in your life?

I was bought up in a ‘house’ family where design and decorating were always discussed. So many of my childhood memories relate to prints and colours. I also started playing shop as a kid so somehow this was always in me. My first job was as a shop assistant aged 17 and it went from there.

Talk us through your ideal Sunday at home?

A lazy start where my dogs come up on the bed and then we would always do a long walk. We love to have friends or family staying, so we would make a Sunday lunch, followed by playing cards or Rummikub which we love. Always a very relaxing day!

We’re sure your home must be fabulous - do you have a favourite room or space that you’ve created?

I love our telly room – it’s filled with favourite paintings from my great aunt Corise, big red corduroy armchairs and a cosy fire.

Whats on the menu for Sunday lunch at your place?

Cooking is my least favourite pastime! I can always think of something better to do, but I was taught as a child. It will likely be roast chicken, potatoes, homemade beetroot bread sauce, baby carrots and some sort of fruit pudding.

Whats your Sunday hosting essential, and any tips for someone new to entertaining at home?

I always keep geraniums and other flowers in the house, so when people come to stay, I make sure there are plenty of fresh flowers around. I also put water, some books, and a jar of biscuits by their beds.

Do you have a favourite Sunday lunch memory from your childhood?

I was always allowed to wear my favourite pink dress on a Sunday!
